Never, never buy a pet quality Italian Greyhound in New York City. The reason we hold dog shows is to determine in a scientific and democratic way which dogs are good enough to create the next generation. Most exhibitors bred the dogs that they show. And, the expense of travel, fuel, hotels and entry fees is such that no one is going to suffer that expense with a genetically inferior or genetically sick dog. So, show breeders exclude genes; every generation of show dog gets a better set of genes.
In New York City, pet breeders do not exclude genes, there is no economic incentive. In fact, they see recklessly adding bad genes as a good thing. Genetics control not just looks but health and largely personality and temperament. If you get a handsome, happy and healthy dog from a New York City pet breeder, you are very very lucky.
